The three Danan warriors were scary, especially when I was only too aware of my nakedness. Yet I couldn’t let them get into all that territorial shit with Charsus/Rian. It was uncomfortable enough as it was without adding distrust and testosterone into the mix.

The blue Danan nodded, his expression surly. “You’re safe, that’s all that matters for the moment.”

“It’s all that matters ever,” Rian added, not willing to let the matter drop.

How could he be so incensed by his brother’s attitude when only moments ago he’d been upset because he thought I preferred Charsus to him? I could see this possessive thing was going to get old fast.

From what I’d seen of pods, and I had to admit that wasn’t much, I thought Danans didn’t get jealous of each other. They knew other Danans wouldn’t be interested in their podmate, and they felt no jealousy between those who shared a podmate. So what was this?

‘I’m not one of them anymore, and Charsus isn’t a Danan, so they’re territorial with him. Just as I am,’ Rian said, his impatience apparent in his tone. Or was it hurt?

“Let’s get this straight, right from the start,” I announced, my fear of Danans and relief over being rescued morphing into annoyance. “I don’t know you guys. I know you think I’m your podmate, but I don’t know you! The only ones I’ve formed bonds with are Charsus and Rian in this non-Danan body. If you want me to be your podmate then you have to find a way to allow them to be part of it too. Jeez, Rian found me for you and died for me, and Charsus allowed Rian’s soul to inhabit his body so he could save me. Surely that get’s them some points. This is non-negotiable. They’re in or I’m out.”

I crossed my arms over my naked chest to make my point.

What was I thinking trying to throw my weight around with guys who could swart me like a bug? Or rape me.

‘No to either of those options. They’d never hurt you. I know my brothers,’ Rian assured me.

‘You know the old version of your brothers, not the bonded versions. This stuff makes you crazy. Look at what it did to you? Is still doing to you?’

“Will you quit doing that?” the blue Danan exclaimed, throwing up his arms.

And I had to admit they were very nice arms. There was so much muscle I thought one arm would probably weigh as much as my whole body.

I pushed down my erotic thoughts with annoyance, knowing my eavesdroppers would pick them up. There had to be a way to keep them out of my head. Having to control my thoughts as well as my feelings was exhausting.

‘You don’t have to control your thoughts,’ Rian rushed to assure me. ‘I understand that you find my brothers sexually arousing. That’s the bond at work.’

I growled aloud.

“She’s having trouble with the Mind Speak. I’m trying to assure her that she doesn’t have to censor herself for us.
